Sevens Shift: SG Vorarlberg/Augsburg Takes on Vaduz

Sevens Shift: SG Vorarlberg/Augsburg Takes on Vaduz

Claudia Korizek10 Jul - 11:50

A day of fast rugby, new teammates, and growing chemistry on the 7s field.

Tournament Recap – 7s Qualifiers in Vaduz

Vaduz, Liechtenstein
05.07.25 – Qualifying Tournament

The Ländle team faced a new kind of rugby challenge: a Sevens qualifying tournament on a sunny Saturday in Vaduz. With eight Vorarlberg players and four reinforcements from RC Augsburg, a new squad was formed: SG Vorarlberg / Augsburg.

The day kicked off with a captain’s run led by Tomás, followed by introductions, warm-ups, and some tactical discussion to align our mixed squad. Chris led a great warm-up session to get the team physically and mentally prepared for the faster pace of Sevens.

Match Results

SG Vorarlberg / Augsburg 5 – 22 RC Regensburg 2000
Scorer: Tomás (Try)

The tournament began with a tough opener against Regensburg. It was clear we were still playing with a XVs mindset—too much contact, not enough space and speed. Despite the early struggles, Tomás scored a brilliant solo try that gave us something to build on. Lessons learned: we had to switch into Sevens mode.

SG Ulm / Ravensburg 22 – 7 SG Vorarlberg / Augsburg
Scorer: Marcos (Try + Conversion)

We entered the second match with a better mindset. The ball was moving quicker, and we started finding space. Changes in the starting lineup brought fresh energy. Marcos scored a great try and added the conversion. The team showed improvements, but there was still work to do in terms of structure and discipline.

SG Vorarlberg / Augsburg 12 – 19 RC Innsbruck
Scorers: Marcos (Try), Abu (Try), + 1 Conversion

This was our turning point. The defense tightened up, the spacing improved, and we started playing like a real Sevens team. While Innsbruck capitalized on a couple of our mistakes, the effort and execution were our best so far. Big performances from Abu and Marcos, with one successful conversion, kept us close.

TV Kempten 14 – 24 SG Vorarlberg / Augsburg
Scorers: Hugo, Abu, Kenny and Christoph + 2 Conversions

Everything clicked in the final match. With a qualification spot on the line, we brought full intensity. The Augsburg players stepped up massively, scoring four tries. The game was tight until the end—17–14 in our favor—when a high-pressure scrum near their 5-meter line allowed Christoph to seal the deal with a last-minute try. A perfect way to finish!

Wrap-up

It was a fantastic day of rugby, learning, and team spirit. Huge thanks to RC Augsburg for joining forces and adding flair and energy to the squad. Shoutout to our own players for adjusting so well from XVs to Sevens—especially the forwards, who embraced the fast-paced format with enthusiasm.

Big thanks to RFC Vaduz for organizing a great tournament and to the referees from all clubs for their fair and consistent officiating. It was a top-quality day of rugby, and we’re looking forward to the next challenge!
