Munich Challenge Met Head-On by Vorarlberg

With a full 15-player squad, everyone had the privilege of playing the full 80 minutes under perfect weather conditions. The large pitch and the deep Munich bench didn’t intimidate our boys — Vorarlberg could count on the loyal supporters who made the trip to Munich, as well as those cheering from home via the livestream.

After a solid warm-up, the game kicked off with high intensity. From the start, the contacts were fierce, and both teams engaged with great energy. Munich took an early lead, but Vorarlberg didn’t give away any easy tries. Unfortunately, luck wasn’t on our side — after just 15 minutes, Yannick, while chasing a Munich player heading for the try line, pulled a muscle and had to leave the pitch, leaving Vorarlberg with 14 men for the rest of the afternoon.
Despite the setback, the team’s spirit remained high. After a few strong phases of ball retention, Tom Wright broke through the defence, fending off tackles one after another to reach the try line. With Yannick off the field, Antonio stepped up to take on the kicking duties but narrowly missed the conversion.
The game continued at a high pace until halftime. Munich’s strategy was clear — exploit the overlap. Vorarlberg’s brave defence made it tough for them, but Munich still managed to add a few more points. In the scrums, which Munich had dominated early on, the Vorarlberg forwards adjusted well and eventually managed to balance the contest.
At halftime, Vorarlberg were clearly behind on the scoreboard, but the spirit in the team was unbroken — everyone was determined to give their all until the final whistle.

The second half began with the same intensity. Vorarlberg managed to build several phases and move closer to the try line. After some well-executed teamwork, Stephan was found on the wing to finish the move and score the team’s second try.
A lack of discipline and some scuffles on the ground cost both teams a yellow card.
Down to 13 players, and with fresh substitutes entering from the Munich side, the closing stages became more challenging. Munich exploited the wider spaces and scored a few more tries.
At this point Vorarlberg had the upper hand in the scrums and our lineouts started functioning well. After repeated infringements from MRFC and three well executed lineouts, Vorarlberg again came close to the try line, but the third try ultimately remained out of reach.
In the closing 10 minutes another lapse in discipline — a high tackle from Marcos — left the team finishing the match with 13 players.

Until the very end, the players gave everything they had. The final score stood at 67–10 in favour of Munich RFC.

A big congratulations to all the players who made the trip to Munich, and thank you to Munich RFC for hosting a great day of rugby. Vorarlberg will now focus on training over the next two weeks in preparation for the upcoming home game.
