Opponent: SG Ulm 1 / Ravensburg 1
Score: Vorarlberg RUFC 24 – 17 SG Ulm 1 / Ravensburg 1
On Saturday, October 24th, we had a clear mission: win our second home game of the season. The squad looked strong — a full team and a powerful forward-packed bench ready to enter as the “bomb squad.” The weather was cold and rainy, but as Vorarlberg players, we are more than used to it. Everything was set on our new pitch for a great rugby Saturday.
The game started with intensity. Hard tackles, committed rucks, and a wet, slippery ball showed early that this battle would be decided through scrums and pure power. In the 7th minute, Hans opened the scoring after great teamwork, and Antonio converted to make it 7–0. A few minutes later, a penalty for the visitors closed the gap to 7–3.
Then came a clever moment from Johannes — after a chaotic contest for the wet ball, he tapped it down in the in-goal area to score. The board showed 14–3. Just before halftime, Ulm/Ravensburg scored a try and conversion, taking us into the break with a tight 14–10. A motivational halftime speech and tactical substitutions prepared us for a massive second half.
Right after the restart, Tom broke through the defense with a powerful run, scoring another try and giving us a comfortable 19–10 lead. The mud thickened, the scrums grew heavier, and the game turned into a true rugby battle. Then Henry seized his moment — ball in hand, supporters roaring — he scored his first try for the club right in front of the home fans. 24–10 and celebrations all around.
The opposition pushed back and managed to earn a converted try to make it 24–17, but our defensive line stayed strong until the final whistle.
A huge home victory for Vorarlberg, climbing to 5th place in the league and boosting the confidence and energy of the entire squad. Two debutants, Ralf and Jonas, made their first club appearance and delivered solid performances — we are happy to have them and excited to see much more from both in the future.
A huge thanks to the referee, our amazing supporters, generous sponsors, and everyone who helped with the setup and the canteen! And of course, thank you to SG Ulm 1 / Ravensburg 1 for making the trip despite the bad weather and giving us a tough, exciting match.
