Final Score: Vorarlberg RUFC 65 – 5 TSV 1846 Nürnberg
A beautiful, sun-drenched Saturday in Vorarlberg set the stage for our final home game of the season. Boasting a formidable squad and a nearly full bench, the boys were locked in and ready to deliver a spectacle against TSV 1846 Nürnberg.
The match ignited with a clinical display of possession from the hosts. Backed by ferocious tackling, structured pod work, and powerful carries, Vorarlberg broke the deadlock just five minutes in when Filippo burst through the defense (7–0). Hungry for more, he struck again exactly five minutes later to stretch the lead to 12–0. Vorarlberg then spread the ball wide to the backs, allowing Marcos to slice through the line for a signature spectacular finish (19–0). Nürnberg managed to hit back after capitalizing on an overthrown lineout near our try line, bringing the score to 19–5 at the 20-minute mark.
Despite a couple of subsequent tries being held up or disallowed—the try lines seemed a bit confusing for the official today!—Vorarlberg kept the pressure on. Following some tight, physical phases, Giacomo forced his way through to score his first-ever try for the club. Moments later, Max found a seam to cross the whitewash, pushing the score to 31–5. In the dying seconds of the half, Giacomo turned on the afterburners, slicing through the Nürnberg line for his second of the day. The Italians were absolutely flying, and we headed into the sheds up 38–5.
The second-half objective was clear: maintain structure and keep the foot on the gas. While the opening minutes turned into a gridlock, Johannes broke the stalemate with a fantastic individual effort (43–5). A 15-minute war of attrition followed, filled with heavy tracking, contested rucks, and set-piece battles.
The floodgates opened again in the 60th minute when Yannick marked a stellar debut at fly-half with a well-deserved try. Shortly after, Alex celebrated his return to the Vorarlberg jersey this season by crossing the line (53–5). Henry joined the party next, showing great awareness to bag his second try of the season, before Marcos put the final exclamation point on the match, sealing a resounding 65–5 victory.
A heartfelt thank you to the massive crowd of supporters who turned up to make our final home game so special, to the tireless organizers, and to TSV 1846 Nürnberg for traveling and fighting hard until the final whistle.
